THC aids in regulating blood flow
THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is considered to be the main component of marijuana responsible for the soothing effect on the brain. It also leaves a lot of effects on the other parts of the body out of which a consistent effect is an increase in heartbeat. It is due to this reason that people suffering from cardiovascular problems are strictly advised to stay away from marijuana. Researchers across the globe have however found out that THC can also perform the job of smooth muscle relaxant in order to calm down the arterial walls and decrease the blood pressure thereby increasing the flow of blood to various tissues. This effect can be compared to the lowering of gear in a car.
How THC can alleviate pain by controlling the blood flow?
Sportspersons, obsessive golfers, serious athletes and all others who live an active lifestyle generally suffer from different types of sports injuries or wear and tear caused by playing hard. Some of the most common medications used for getting rid of these pains and injuries include muscle relaxants, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications), analgesics, narcotics, etc. However, most of them come with a number of side effects which are completely known to dedicated sportspersons. For instance, consuming opiates flood the pain receptors with various damping effects and interrupt with the pain signals sent to the brain. On a longer term, it reduces the production of endogenous opiate. Due to this decreased production of natural opiate, there are various effects in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland thereby resulting in diabetes, GI inhibition, reduced libido, insomnia, fatigue, depression, etc.
With the passage of time, scientists have discovered that apart from the above-mentioned drugs, cannabis can be used for healing injuries from inside. Medical grade marijuana is known to reduce chronic pain and inflammation resulting from old injuries. This helps in controlling the endocrine system and protecting it from getting degraded every day due to stress or pain. The modern specifically engineered medical marijuana strains offer greater levels of comfort against pain and inflammation. THC is considered to be helpful in dealing with different kinds of diseases like chronic pain, multiple sclerosis and glaucoma as well as side effects of AIDS treatment and chemotherapy like a decrease in appetite and nausea. The presence of CBD increases the medicinal effects of marijuana without the euphoric effects. It is useful in getting rid of anxiety, nausea, convulsions, inflammation, pain, treating schizophrenia and reducing cancer cell growth.
It’s good to be careful though
Smoking marijuana can affect the blood flow inside the brain so powerfully that it comes back to the normal state almost after a month. The effects are much longer in case of heavy smokers. People smoking cannabis are found to have much higher blood flow in the brains in comparison to non-users. It also results in increased resistance to the flow of blood by changing the brain’s blood vessels and preventing oxygen from reaching the tissue efficiently. The extra blood is then delivered to compensate for the loss of blood due to the resistance but may not find enough oxygen while passing inside the vessels.
